Engagement photoshoots are a great way to capture the love and chemistry between two people. However, I've found over the years that as a photographer, it's crucial to better understand the couple's personalities, preferences, and vision for their session. That's why I always ask couples to complete a questionnaire before their engagement session. In this blog post, I will share my recent experience working with Ally and Nick and how their questionnaire helped me capture their love uniquely and memorably.

The second I received the answers to Ally and Nick's questionnaire, I realized they were an easygoing and fun-loving couple who would be a blast to work with. They didn't want to have just any regular photos of them smiling at the camera. Instead, they wanted me to capture their genuine love and understanding for each other. Before you start groaning, understand that their answers were GOLD! Their questionnaire gave me a clear path and goal for their photoshoot.

Another crucial aspect of Ally and Nick's questionnaire was getting to know their personalities. For example, Ally mentioned that Nick was her calming influence in stressful situations. This helped me understand that Nick's presence would help his partner feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot. Knowing this allowed me to accurately capture their natural chemistry with ease.

Additionally, Nick described Ally as someone who always makes everything fun and exciting. This allowed me to create a lighthearted atmosphere on the day of their engagement session, just like they requested. We aimed for candid and playful shots, resulting in pictures that accurately captured their personalities.

Ally and Nick's pre-session questionnaire also helped me understand their preferred style for their engagement photos. They wanted their pictures to have a "lived-in" feeling, almost like capturing glimpses of their everyday life. They also gave me carte-blanche authority to take them wherever I felt inspired. Which is how we ended up in Olneyville in Providence. I'm telling you, these two made my heart sing! Because they trusted me to get the images right, I was free to choose locations that complimented the urban vibe of the session I was going for. Moreover, this made me realize that capturing their love in natural, candid moments would create their ideal engagement photos.

In conclusion, pre-engagement session questionnaires can help photographers understand their clients better, their vision for the session, and their personalities and preferences. This makes the session more personalized, resulting in more unique and special pictures for the couple. By getting to know Ally and Nick better through their pre-session questionnaire, I captured their love candidly and playfully, making their personal love story shine in their photos. I recommend filling out a questionnaire for your photographer to guarantee the best engagement session experience and pictures.
