Surviving the Cold: A Frigid Engagement Session in Providence
Winter Engagement Photo Ideas
Getting engaged is one of a couple's most romantic and exciting moments. It's a time of celebration and joy meant to be captured with beautiful photographs ( I know, my bias is showing!). However, when the weather is frigid, it can be a challenge to have a successful engagement session. Fortunately for Kristin and Stefan, their love for each other and passion for books motivated them to brave the cold and have a stunning engagement session with the Providence Public Library as their backdrop. Check out images from their engagement session in the slideshow below! And read on to garner some tips on how you too can survive a frigid engagement photoshoot.
Kristin and Stefan are both lovers of books, so they wanted to incorporate these themes into their engagement session. Furthermore, they desired a session that would highlight their personalities while still capturing their love for each other. But, of course, the day of their session just happened to be one of the coldest days of the year so far, so making pictures outside was NOT an option that day.
I am not one to find mother nature, so my first move was to find an indoor location that would work for them. I chose one of my favorite spaces in Providence - the Providence Public Library on Empire Street in downtown Providence. Despite the freezing weather, Kristin and Stefan didn't let the cold stop them from having a fantastic session. They trusted me to find a way to make them look and feel amazing. They traveled from Worcester to Providence to shoot at the Providence Public Library, a stunning venue with incredible architecture perfect for any photo session.
[However, I'd be remiss if I didn't note that is a fee to photograph at the library, so it's essential to check in with the authorities before your session and settle up. Awareness of fees or restrictions with any location you photograph will allow your shoot to go off without a hitch and ensure the session flows seamlessly.]
If you cannot find an indoor space where you can have your session, then the next option is to embrace the weather and dress for the cold. So come armed with things to help keep you warm:
Wear winter clothes that keep you warm and complement your surroundings. I always recommend couples dress in warm layers to wear and take off throughout the session. This way, there's no need for a wardrobe change, AND you have different looks that will add variety to your image gallery.
Consider wearing comfortable clothes to keep warm and still keep you looking stylish. Accessories that add pops of color to your outfit are ideal, like a bright scarf or hat.
Ensure you have hot drinks on hand to keep everyone warm and hydrated.
