Everyone wants pictures that look fantastic, but are also special to themselves. Here are five easy ways I suggest you can make your engagement pictures unique to you.

Add your wedding colors or theme

If you’ve already decided on a particular color scheme or theme for your wedding day, consider incorporating it into your engagement photos. This can be as subtle or overt as you’d like. Just be aware, if you think you may change your mind during wedding planning, you might want to hold off on this one!

Recreate a favorite photo

Do you have a photo of the two of you that you absolutely love? Maybe it’s your first photo together, or maybe it’s just a special image. A fun way to celebrate your engagement is to recreate that photo as closely as you can. This way, you can commemorate the time that has passed while looking forward to what the future may hold. You can even continue to recreate this photo later on at your wedding or on anniversaries, so you can look back and see how the two of you have changed.

Bring a Prop

Another easy way you can make your engagement really personal is by bringing along a prop that’s special to you both. Daniel and Klara brought a sign with their new name for their session. So did Alyssa and Delly. Yenisse and Al brought battery-powered signs for their session.

Pro tip!

One great tip is to bring along your pet. After all, your fur-baby is part of your clan and will make a great subject for your session See Krystal and Matt’s Engagment Session where they brought their fur baby Koda.

Plan a mini-vacation together and bring your photographer along

If you’ve got the travel bug, then chances are that you both have a vacation planned already (even in the midst of wedding planning). What better way to personalize your engagement photographs than by having your wedding photographer make gorgeous images of you both while on vacation. Daniel and Klara are avid travelers! One glance at Klara’s instagram feed and you can immediately tell that this couple loves to experience new places together. For their mini-engagement session, they chose a session in their home-city of Providence, but are not opposed to having more pictures taken when they hit the road again in the new year.

Toast your engagement with a real toast!

Who says you have to wait until your wedding day to toast your union? Make some fun images with a special toast to each other. Not only will a champagne (or your beverage of choice) make for some spectacular images, it can make your session a date. You can practice your vows while you toast each other, or take this time to read the love letters you wrote to each other. Either way, its a fun way to start or end your engagement session.

Bonus Tip

Be yourselves, Everyone else is taken - Oscar Wilde

I can’t think of better advice than this. My best pictures emerge when my clients let their guard down and be their authentic selves. I know it sounds cliche, but there’s truly no better way to get the best candid pictures of yourselves than when you actually act like yourself. Don’t worry about being silly, awkward or weird. Just be you and the rest will come naturally. These are just a few tips I have on how to make your engagement session unique to you. If you’d like some more tips, read another blog post I wrote on the same subject here.
