Henry and Kristin had the wedding of their dreams at Shelter Harbor Inn in Westerly, RI, on a bright but cold day. With a beautiful backdrop and just 40 guests in attendance, the couple celebrated their union with love and laughter. While planning such a small event may have seemed daunting, this couple pulled it off without a hitch! Let's take a closer look at how Henry and Kristin planned their micro-wedding.
Choosing the venue is one of the most important decisions when planning any wedding. For Henry and Kristin's micro-wedding, they chose Shelter Harbor Inn, a little gem hidden in plain sight on Rt. 1 in Westerly, RI. The inn had plenty of outdoor space to accommodate their small number of guests while still providing a romantic setting for their special day. This also allowed them to keep within budget while having an elegant celebration.
The Ceremony: Kristin surprised her two boys with a first look before we got to the "I Dos ."Then she had a first look with Henry. It was such an emotional moment that brought tears to the eyes of everyone watching. One of Kristin's good friends from graduate school officiated the ceremony and incorporated several readings during the service that spoke to everyone in attendance. After saying, "I do," Henry and Kristin braved the bitter evening cold for portraits on the patio. I was very proud of both of them, even while I gradually lost the feelings in all my fingers and toes.
The Food: You want to ensure your guests are well-fed when having an intimate gathering! Henry and Kristin's menu was to die for. Guests had the choice of Beef short rib served with mascarpone polenta, broccoli rabe, and beef bolognese sauce. Or, Pan-pressed Statler chicken served with potato puree, haricots verts, and natural jus. A fish option of Honey-lavender salmon with charred Brussel sprouts and Marscapone polenta was also available. Everything was as delicious as it sounded. To top off their meal, they chose a beautiful cake from Ivy and Lace Bake Shop decorated with an adorable figurine of the family's dog.
Conclusion: Micro-weddings are becoming increasingly popular, one of the few delightful side effects of the COVID era. Henry & Kristin's intimate gathering proves you don't need large numbers of people to create incredible memories on your special day. By utilizing family & friends wherever possible (like having her friend officiate), they saved money while still having an incredibly meaningful celebration. If you're thinking about having your own micro-wedding in Westerly, RI, take some inspiration from Henry & Kristen's special day!
